AbstractThe International TOVS Processing Package (ITPP) was used to retrieve temperature and moisture profiles using TOVS/NOAA data. The retrieval of these profiles were obtained considering the following initialization alternatives: profiles established through regression coefficients or profiles initialized by profiles from the Centro de Previsão de Tempo e Estudos Climáticos (CPTEC) prediction data. Also, the first guess profiles were anchored with surface data. The influence of surface data and the forecasting model’s data were evaluated in relation to the profiles obtained through regression coefficients. The results show that the surface data modify the profiles up to 700 hPa level. On the other hand, the ITPP initialization with CPTEC’s temperature and moisture profiles influences the final temperature profiles in all atmosphere levels.
